A quick-release spring bar is one of the simplest yet most useful watch parts to keep at hand. It joins the bracelet to the case and lets you swap straps without any tools. This pin-style spring bar, made of stainless steel, fits straps designed for fast strap changes and is available in several diameters and lengths to match a wide range of watches, from sports models to dress pieces.

Product overview

The spring bar (also known as a watch pin) is the small spring-loaded rod that holds the strap inside the lugs of the case. On a quick-release version, one of the two tips ends in a small lever that you push with a fingernail. Pressing that lever retracts the pin and frees the strap instantly, with no spring bar tool, no pin punch and no risk of scratching the lugs. It is the same principle that brands such as Hirsch, Morellato, and many original equipment straps use on modern Seiko, Tissot, or Citizen references.

The body is turned from stainless steel for corrosion resistance, and the internal spring is hardened to keep its tension over thousands of strap changes. The lever is positioned at one end so the bar can be inserted into the lugs in either direction. It works on leather, silicone, rubber, nylon NATO-style and even fabric straps, provided the strap itself has the matching half-moon notch that lets the lever protrude.

When to use it

You should reach for a quick-release spring bar whenever you want a tool-free strap change. It is the ideal solution for collectors who rotate several straps on the same case, for travellers who pack one watch and several looks, and for anyone who has scratched their lugs once too often with a pin punch. It is also the part to order as a replacement when the original lever has lost its spring or when the pin no longer clicks firmly into the lug hole.

It is not suitable for vintage watches with very narrow lug holes or for chronographs with thick fixed bracelets that require a screwed attachment such as the BERGEON 7260 tool. For those, a classic spring bar or a screw bar is the right choice.

How to install / use

  1. Lay the watch face down on a soft cloth or watchmaker pad to protect the crystal and lugs.
  2. Insert the fixed tip of the spring bar into the strap end and slide the assembly between the lugs.
  3. Push the lever side with your fingernail to compress the spring; the tip retracts inside the bar.
  4. Align the retracted tip with the lug hole and release; you should feel a clear click as the pin locks in place.
  5. Pull gently on the strap to confirm the bar is fully engaged before wearing the watch.
  6. To remove the strap, simply press the lever again through the cut-out in the strap and slide the bar out.

Quality & origin

This quick-release spring bar is manufactured to standard watch industry tolerances. Brands such as Bergeon, Boley and several Swiss component makers use the same construction principle. Each bar is checked for spring tension and tip concentricity before packaging, so that the click feels positive and the bar holds the strap firmly even on heavier metal cases.

FAQ

Will this fit my Rolex, Omega or Seiko?

Modern Seiko quick-release straps accept this bar directly. Rolex and Omega use fixed bracelets that require their own screw bars or proprietary spring bars; this pin-style quick-release model is intended for aftermarket straps with the matching notch.

What length should I order?

Measure the gap between the inside of the lugs in millimetres. That measurement is the length to order. Most modern watches are 18, 20 or 22 mm.

Can I use it on a diver's watch?

Yes, provided the strap is designed for quick-release. For ISO 6425 dive watches we still recommend checking that the lever clicks firmly into the lug hole and that you do not exceed the original strap rating.
